Resolved: As of Finale v25.4

Lately, we have noticed that a particular Pro Tools component can cause a crash in Finale. This appears to be due to an attempt to access this component as an audio device when Finale initializes which in turn causes a conflict.

If you have Pro Tools 12 and Finale v25 installed you may be noticing these crashes. The particular component that Finale conflicts with is called "CFnd.dll".

One thing you can do is temporarily remove this DLL from the Pro Tools directory and then launch Finale. Here are some steps:

  1. Hold down the WINDOWS key on your computer keyboard and press the letter R at the same time to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type in:
    C:\Program Files\Avid\Pro Tools
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the folder window that appears, locate the file "CFnd.dll".
  5. Drag that file to the desktop.
  6. Launch Finale.

You can move this file back after launching Finale to see use with other programs if needed. If you are still running into the crash after trying this workaround, please feel free to contact our Customer Success team for further assistance.
