Users launching Finale 2014.5 and earlier on macOS Catalina and later may receive the following error message:
"The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. Contact the developer for more information."
Unfortunately, this means the version of Finale being launched is not considered compatible with the current operating system. This is due to a change implemented by Apple starting in macOS 10.15 (Catalina). Going forward, 32-bit applications are no longer considered compatible. To read more about this change, please see the following blog post by Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208436
Since using any 32 bit versions of Finale on Catalina and later will unfortunately not be possible, the following options are available to you:
- Move your notation program to another computer that uses a compatible operating system, if one is available.
- Upgrade to Finale version 27—the latest version of our flagship notation program—which is fully compatible with Mojave.
- Not ready to upgrade yet? Download a 30-day free trial of Finale v27 so you can continue making music in the meantime.
