A subset of Windows users may encounter the error message, "File not found. Check the file name and try again." when trying to save a new file for the first time:
In most cases, following a security update to Windows, a feature called Controlled Folder Access may be automatically turned on, preventing 3rd-party applications from accessing specific folders on your computer. To turn this feature off, please follow the steps below:
- Select Start > Settings > Update & Security (Windows 10) or Privacy & Security (Windows 11) > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
- Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings.
- Under Controlled folder access, select Manage Controlled folder access.
- Switch the Controlled folder access setting to Off.
Once this is done, reattempt to save your Finale files. If you are still experiencing the same error message after turning off controlled folder access, please use the Submit a Request option above to contact Customer Support.
