SmartMusic crashing on launch (Macintosh)

Some Macintosh computers with outdated user files can cause SmartMusic to crash on their computers. We are working on ways to avoid this operating system problem, but we have the following two suggestions to try resolving the conflicts.

Resetting cached user fonts (this will not affect other programs on your Macintosh)

  1. Create a new folder on the Desktop called "Temporary Font Location".
  2. Open Macintosh HD > Users > (your user name) > Library > Fonts
  3. Press Command+A to select all of the font files listed
  4. Drag all of these files into the Temporary Font Location folder on the desktop
  5. Open the Temporary Font Location folder (keep the Library > Fonts folder open as well)
  6. Press Command+A to select all of the font files listed
  7. Drag all of these files back into the Library > Fonts folder
  8. Launch SmartMusic to see if the crash has resolved

Clearing outdated or conflicting Plug-ins (this may affect some websites in Safari*)

  1. Open Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins
  2. Trash the following files if present:
    • DirectorShockwave.plugin
    • Myriad Music Plugin.plugin
    • npTGEQPlugin.plugin
    • Quartz Composer.webplugin
  3. Open the Disabled Plug-ins folder and repeat step 2 if these three files are also listed
  4. Launch SmartMusic to see if the crash has resolved

(* = the Myriad Music plug-in and Pearson Software's "TestGen" plug-in are not compatible with SmartMusic)
