Display Issues in SmartMusic on Windows

There is a known issue on Windows computers with high resolution, especially on small monitors (Lenovo Yoga, Microsoft Surface Pro, etc.), that causes icons and text to display smaller than normal in SmartMusic.

This issue is related to the default high resolution and corresponding DPI (dots per inch) settings on those computers. Our development team is aware and is working to correct the issue, but in the meantime follow the steps below to adjust your display settings.

Changing the settings below can impact other programs, and should only be changed for use with SmartMusic.

Change your DPI settings

  1. Close any open programs
  2. Hold down your Windows key and press the letter R to open the Run dialog box
  3. Type "control panel" (without quotation marks) and press Enter
  4. Click the dropdown for View By and choose Small icons
  5. Click Display
  6. Click the checkbox for Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays, and click on Custom sizing options
  7. Click the drop-down menu to select a DPI scaling size of 100%, and click OK
  8. Click on Apply
  9. If prompted, click on Sign out now to apply
  10. Sign into your account

Then, use the steps below to adjust your monitor's screen resolution:

  1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click on the Display icon
  2. Click on Change display settings
  3. Click the drop-down for Resolution and lower the resolution of your display. A display resolution in the range of 1280x720 - 1920x1080 is recommended. These settings may need to be repeated if you have multiple monitors.
  4. Click Ok and then click Keep changes
  5. Open SmartMusic and test the application.

In the event that changing both your display resolution and your DPI settings does not produce the desired results, please contact Customer Success.
