Depending on your version of Windows, the Kontakt 5 installer from Native Instruments asks you to specify folders for installing the Kontakt 5 VST plug-in. Finale 2011 - 2014.5 can only use the 32-bit version of the plug-in. Attempting to activate the 64-bit version causes validation to fail. This can be confusing, because both the 32-bit and 64-bit plug-ins are named Kontakt 5.dll.
To activate Kontakt 5, copy the 32-bit plug-in to the Finale VST Support folder:
- Close Finale. Copy the Kontakt 5.dll file from the following folder (Note: This is the default installation folder. If you change the default folders during installation of the Kontakt player, be sure to choose the correct Kontakt 5.dll from the folder you specified):
- Windows (32-bit editions): C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\VSTPlugins 32 bit\
- Windows (64-bit editions): C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins\
C:\ProgramData*\MakeMusic\Finale 201x\VST Support
*This is a hidden folder. To show hidden files and folders, go to the Explorer's Tools Menu (XP) or the Organize Menu (Vista/7/8/10), Folder and Search Options, the View tab, and select the "Show hidden files and folders" option.
- In Finale 2011, you may also need to remove the space from the filename Kontakt 5.dll in order to validate the plug-in. The full Kontakt 5 VST plug-in should now be available as a playback device under MIDI/Audio > Instrument Setup > VST Instruments.
