When purchasing a new product or upgrade from one of MakeMusic's dealers, there is an extra step required. You either have to register the product with MakeMusic (new purchases) or validate the upgrade (competitive & normal upgrades). The information in this article will instruct you on how to do so.

New products purchased from a dealer

When you purchase a new copy of a Finale notation program from a dealer other than MakeMusic, you'll receive a new serial number. You must register that serial number on our website to download your new software.

 

To register your new serial number:

  1. Go to our Downloads page.
  2. Click Begin Download Process.
  3. Type in your new serial number and click Next.
  4. Log in to your MakeMusic account or create a new one, if needed.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to download the installer.

Note: If you purchased a new copy of Finale as trade-up from a competing product (Sibelius, Encore, etc), please follow the steps in this section to validate your new Finale serial number instead of registering a new purchase.

 

Upgrades purchased from a dealer

When you purchase an upgrade to Finale or PrintMusic from a dealer other MakeMusic, you will receive an upgrade code. You must redeem this code on our website to apply the upgrade to your existing serial number and download your upgraded software.

 

To validate your Finale upgrade:

  1. Go to our Downloads page.
  2. Click Validate Upgrade.
  3. Type your Finale serial number and nine-digit upgrade code. Click Next.
  4. Log in to your MakeMusic account.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to download the upgraded installer.

 

Validating competitive trade-ups

When you purchase a competitive trade-up to Finale from a dealer other MakeMusic, you will receive a  new Finale serial number. You must validate that serial number on our website by typing in the serial number or activation ID of your competing product.

 

To validate your competitive trade-up:

  1. Go to our Switch to Finale page.
  2. Select your competing product from the list and enter its serial number or activation code.
  3. Enter your Finale serial number. Click Next.
  4. If prompted, log in to your MakeMusic account.
  5. Download and install Finale.

If you do not own a competing product, please contact your dealer about returning the competitive trade-up and purchasing a new license. See the article Finale Competitive Trade-ups for a list of competing products which qualify for this trade-up.
