Hello

One measure - and only one - prints out with the (reverse stem) beaming corrupted. Hundreds of other measures with reverse stems are fine. I've tried rewriting the measure and also printing the document in different ways but in PDF format it always comes out wrong wrong, whereas in Finale and exported as a PNG graphic it is correct. The problem occurs only in bar 2 and concerns the first reverse stem (on beat one) which, in the PDF export always has the beam way too high, covering the 2nd and 3rd notes. I have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it ! Many thanks.   Finale 27, Windows 11

You tell that you have “tried rewriting the measure and also printing the document in different ways”.

Possibly that very measure is corrupted.

Something to try (could not hurt, but do it in a backup copy of the Finale document):

Insert a fresh measure after Measure 1, and try to enter the music in the inserted measure.

If everything goes well with the inserted measure, then you can just delete the corrupted measure.

Thank you Peter but I tried eliminating the entire measure then adding a new one and rewriting the passage but the problem persists. The only thing that works is to have the reverse stem beam very very low in the Finale version and then when it converts to PDF it is much higher but in the right place. Looks all wrong in the Finale version ....... (see image)

Unlike the Mac, Windows does not have a native PDF engine. What are you using?

"Export" to PDF, also tried "Print" (Microsoft to PDF). Both give the identical deformed result. I think it may have to do with my beaming setup in "Document Options" - some incompatibility with my manually adjusted reverse stem beaming and the options. But the graphics export gives an exact reproduction of my Finale measure - only the PDF export is affected !!!???

… the graphics export gives an exact reproduction of my Finale measure …

I suppose that you - by your words “graphic export” - are talking about the Graphics Tool - right?

What file format options do you have in graphics export from the Graphics Tool?

I have (in my Finale) the options

JPG

PDF

PNG

SVG

TIF

Agin, Windows does not have a native PDF engine. Microsoft discontinued their Print to PDF app midway through Win 10 and it is no longer available. They do not recommend using it in Win 11.

Many Finale for Windows users get good results from Cute PDF, a free app. I do not know that it will fix this issue but it will not have the problems that caused Microsoft to depreciate and withdraw Print to PDF.

Thanks Mike. I'll definitely give that CUTE PDF a try. Didn't know about the Microsoft "Print to PDF" issue.
