The standard Maestro 8th and 16th note flags are very long. They require a very long stem to give room for the enormously long tails. This is an unnecessary occupation of space in the notation and is a nuisance especially in two situations:
- string writing, because we need lots of room in which to put not just dynamics, slurs and articulations but also fingerings and bowings
- in any compact, densely notated scores where space is at a premium
The First Downstem Flag nº 239 is much more practical than your standard nº 74. Likewise, the First Upstem Flag nº 145 is much more practical than your standard nº 106.
Unfortunately, Finale doesn't even offer the choice of a 16th note flag (upstem or downstem) that matches these "improved" 8th note flags (239 and 145).
So I would like to suggest that you:
- offer a 16th note flag that matches these "improved" 8th note flags (239 and 145) to be added to your palette of options
- substitute the standard Maestro eighth and sixteenth note flags for the better options that I mentioned above
Many thanks Ian Swedlund
