I have macOS Mojave and Finale version 27.3.0.160 . One problem that seems to be ongoing in every version of Finale I've ever had is the Playback Curser being practically invisible. The transparency at times, makes it not visible at all. It would be great to be able to color it up to being solid and expand the width as options. Thank you.

Ok, I can’t find anything in the User Guide by searching cursor (the correct spelling). That said, I’m not having any problem with this. What is your monitor resolution and what are the settings?

It would be great to be able to color it up ...

In Windows, Finale 27.3 lets you make the playback cursor any color you want. Is that not so in the Mac version?

No different. Preferences/Display Colors takes you there. As far as I know, the Default color is green — that's why I asked about the monitor. If there's a way to thicken the cursor, I don't see it.

I defy anyone to find this in the User Manual by searching for Playback Cursor, however.

Thank you for your comment. I do have color option like above and did try to change that green color to black. It seems the darker you go the more transparent it becomes and the lighter it goes the more it shows up. I would think it would be the other way around. I tried both with page color changed too but no luck. At some angles I can make out the cursor. I have a Macintosh that has windows too but I have not used the windows version for years. I do a lot of studio recording and artwork, so Mac is a better option for me. I had contacted support and I was told the cursor it wasn't available fix, and to submit it as an addition for Finale. I have 3 monitors. the lowest one is 1280 x 720, HD and 4K. it is the same on all. It has been hard to see always but the last 3 versions are really bad. I know windows only has somewhere a little over 200 colors and any others are emulated. Mac has millions so maybe that's a factor, not sure. At any rate I still would like to see a solid Playback cursor like Logic Pro, Protools and and that which other recording programs have. It would be nice if it was solid and you could dial in the amount of transparency, also some width as well. I love Finale and did my last album ( totally ) with Finale, which was about 3 years ago and the cursor was easier to see then too but still a bit invisible. Thank you, I appreciate your feedback.

At my age, all of my displays are set to Scaled instead of Default for Display. It's the only way that I see anything anymore. My iMac Pro has the built-in 5k display, of course. My side monitors are 27" LG 4k displays. I find that having brightness turned town a bit can help. Because some apps still have issues with 10 bit color profiles, I do not use the default.

It hadn't occurred to me about the color profile, though I don't have the color settings you do, I tried everyone tand found one that worked well. I still feel that a white playback scroll is not a good idea for a white background. It seems odd that going to a black color makes it more invisible than white, which I have it set at now. There are people with no experience and just want to do something for their own personal enjoyment. I worked with John Cage at Harvard on his Songbook, assisted in sound on animations and did sound for live performances. So what! what good does that do for those people who might want to easily use this program. These days I prefer, obscure music mixed with sound art, experimental and such. I have no desire to write for film scenes, having directors or producers changing their minds a hundred times. I'll take the relaxing life.   Mike the way you approach things with visual and very little typing, that doesn't have pages of type leaving your eyes with black dots, is great. This is the way a manual should be written basic, understandable to the common person, without all the technical info that only a programmer would understand. There are more people that are small-time composers and musicians than successful composers. Software companies should keep that in mind. ProTools has never realized that and now there are so many software recording companies in competition with them, I'm surprised they can stay in business. Anyways, Thank you very much...

Wayne,

I have never heard of anyone, although I am on Windows but I know Mac users, that had a problem with the cursor visibility. Of course that is neither here nor there but I suspect MM doesn't see it as a problem. Glad you got something that works for you.

All the best.

As I showed in my screen shot, the Default is a shade of green.

On my old 2012 MacBook Pro, I do not see the line at the Default resolution but I certainly see the arrow above it. Good enough for most, I think. The entire cursor does show up when I take a screen shot, however, so it is there.
