I suggest two minor changes to Finale’s verbal user interface:

1) Document menu > Show Active Layer Only

I suggest that the menu item {Show Active Layer Only} is renamed to {Edit/Show Active Layer Only} - to clearly tell the user what this option does.

2) Document menu > Page Format > …

It seems to me that many users misunderstand the two Page Format dialog boxes, assuming that that the dialog boxes affect already existing pages.

One might say that the title {Page Format} is a bit misleading.

I suggest that the menu item {Page Format} is renamed to {New Pages/Systems Default} - to clearly tell the user, what this item does.

Obviously the dialog boxes {Page Format for Score} and {Page Format for Parts} should be renamed accordingly, to {New Pages/Systems Default for Score} and {New Pages/Systems Default for Parts}.

Also, it might be a good idea to add to the two dialog boxes the following info:

“To update already existing pages/systems, use the Page Layout menu command Redefine Pages.”

Excellent ideas, Peter. If the powers that be listen to no-one else, they should listen to you!

There is so much that should be done to make Finale easier to understand. These are great suggestions.

(When I read "verbal interface," I pictured someone shouting at their computer, something I do often enough but with little effect.)

Excellent suggestions. I would add one more (a timesaver) : include in that renamed "Page Format" window the function to Redefine pages (That would save us the detour via the Page layout tool, which we know many users take a while to assimilate).

Excellent ideas! I agree that some descriptions can be more explicit in the Finale.
