How about a print preview.  Finale is the only major software I know of that doesn't offer a print preview among other basic features.

Hi All:

Printing is a big deal and we do need to get with the times. I couldn't agree more. FIN-3681 documents some enhancements, such as Print Preview, that we plan to tackle.

Thank you for the suggestion and the dialogue on what you wish for.

Which differences do you imagine between a print preview and the existing page view?

Simple the print preview would be on the "printer" tab.  Not some other screen that you looked at some time ago.  No different than the other big top of the line software like Word, Excel or Photoshop or Sibelius and on and on. They all offer a print preview.  It is the last check before you hit the print button. Are you saying you wouldn't like it?

No, I'm just asking for the differences between the print preview and the existing page view, which already shows the page as it would be printed. Thanks for explaining, as you don't mention any differences in functionality between the two, it's obviously more the location, if I understand you correctly. You wish to have the existing page view displayed a second time within the print dialog.

I would think that there are more urgent issues in enhancing Finale's functionality.

More urgent? Like adding a didgeridoo to the Garritan sound file?

All major software shows exactly what will be printed on the printer page.

I would definitely vote for a "Print Preview" in the print dialog area that does the following:

1. Incorporates the selected page setup parameters including printer type, paper size, printer margins, printer specific "printable area" borders, etc.
2. Finale draws the preview using the selected printer's driver to show exactly how the page will come out of the selected printer.  This is often not the same as what we see in "Page View" while editing the document... Every printer is different - different printable areas especially.
3. Finale  or the printer driver previews n-up pages incorporating printer margins, page margins - again... exactly as it would exit the printer. This would be especially helpful when formatting two 9x12 part pages onto a single 12x18 sheet of paper (2-up and rotated).

I suppose we can do this already using the "print to pdf" option in the print dialog box (Mac OS X), and then simply view the PDF on-screen... but what if we could adjust margins and n-up positioning of pages for booklets and double sided spreads or other imposition/pagination possibilities for scores or multi-page parts while in a "Live" print preview mode...?

And even better - what if we could save these settings as a Library and load/apply these printer settings into any other new or existing Finale document?

Is there a Print Preview in v25? thank you. Also, I have edited Document->Page and Score margins, but I cannot see how it looks, so I was looking for Print Preview. oh man, I think I am going to check out Sibelius again. I don't feel like this is healthy software. and each time I search these forums, I get posts where people seem to ask for very specific things, without explaining why they are doing what they are doing, so it's hard to follow, but this post makes sense, a print preview. Also, the Wizard dialog boxes are not "roomy" enough for me. And the horizontal and vertical zooms limits within finale are frustrating, now with vector graphics. And the dynamic menus, based on which mouse mode I'm in....limit keyboard shortcuts. copying and pasting triplets sometimes fails. lyrics writing on top of staff in scroll mode sometimes cuts out of frame. I prefer Finale to act like a DAW I suppose, so maybe this is unnecessary. But some DAWs are very complex. I like Finale, or a music DAW, having ...speaking via Music notation, ie, uses actual bars of music and using the universal rhythm notation. I think it's a good starting point for software. I wish the GUI and noteheads were more flexible. I usually stay quiet, but thanks for reading. Is there a print Preview now? Landscape just printed with a bunch of white space, to the right.

How about just getting Finale to print with Windows 10? That would be nice.

I actually asked for a print screen way back before MM moved to Colorado.  So, that has been many years ago, perhaps a decade!  A real text editor would be nice, too. Still waiting........................................
