I am trying to get GPO4-5 to work on Linux (Zorin 12). I have had success with installation, and can at least initially get sounds from both Aria and Plogue players. However, activation fails. If I could get this one last step completed, I think it would be usable on Linux. This would be a huge thing, as GPO would then be the best library that works on Linux. It's close, but I just need a little help with this and I think I'll be good to go.

Try putting a copy of the png license in:

1.  Your user home directory.

2.  In the top directory of the library it goes with.

3.  If attempting to run the executable under Wine or something...drop a copy in the 'Windows' %USERPROFILE% directory that you log in with.

Etc...

ARIA Engine also makes regular logs of everything going on.  I've no idea where they'd go on a Linux setup, but a mass search for *.log might turn them up.  That'd show you where all ARIA is attempting to find registration keys.

If all that fails, go to the Plogue user forum.  That's where the REAL Aria experts are :)

Thank You Brian for your suggestions. I already posted on Plogue and received a reply today. They advised that, with the sfz player, I try to import the keycards into the player, which actually worked. I don't know if there's any way to do this with Aria.

I have tried to implement some of your suggestions but so far no luck. This is tricky stuff. If only VST makers would make their products work on Linux!

In the meantime,. we are left to scramble for ourselves, without much to go on. Fortunately, I do my music on Reaper in Windows. This is just to fool around. It would be cool to be able to use a Linux DAW, like LMMS, and have GPO as the main library. Some day I hope to be able to do that.

Oh, that should work!  I'd forgotten about simply dragging the card onto ARIA.  It works when running under Windows anyway.

Well, today there are no activation issues, maybe restarting my computer was the final key, after trying the various suggestions here and the Plogue forum. I wish I could say exactly what worked, but I can't. I moved the keycards around to different folders, and imported it to sforzano, but that's it. (When I say import, I don't mean simply dragging it onto the player. I mean choosing the "import" option in the menu, normally used for loading sounds. I told sfz where to look for the keycards, and then immediately got a message that szf was activated.

So, I can load and play GPO4-5 in both players. However, the sound is very weak, and none of the effects work. But it's a start. Now, I need to solve the problem of getting it into LMMS. I think I've been trying to load the desktop, standalone versions. That could be the problem. I need to find where the other versions are, and point LMMS there. I'll keep you updated. Having GPO work, even very basically, in Linux, is a huge thing IMO.

I forgot to add, I had to copy the settings from sfz into Aria to get sound from Aria.

Not only have I succeeded in activating both Aria and sforzando on Zorin 12, I now have them working in LMMS as VST inst's. Eric Patenaude's (Plogue Forum) suggestion to import the keycard got the standalone versions working. I finally discovered last night that the dll versions were hiding in my Wine/C:/ProgramFiles/Garritan and Plogue folders. That allowed me to finally import them into the Vestige plugin that comes with LMMS. Only the 32 bit works, but possibly with more configuration the 64 bit will as well.

Bottom line: Garritan Personal Orchestra 4 and 5 working in LMMS on Linux Zorin 12. The ambiance and convolution reverbs both work with the send on the mixer. Most importantly, it saves, and reopens. All other controls work also. So, fully functional. So far I have only used an instance of Aria or sforzando per inst, but I'm going to try using multiple instruments on the same instance and see what happens.

Hello Michael. How did you get the keycard working on Wine? Every Time I drag my card into aria player, both wine and Aria gets stuck.

EDIT: It worked! You can load a license from Aria Player clicking in an empty bank > import. I got GPO5 + LMMS working correctly with flawless latency.
