I am using finale 25 on a windows 10 operating system. I am creating a music theory final.  I am trying to show the time signature only in certain regions but if I select the region and select show time signature always it sets the time signature at the beginning instead of the region I have selected.  I also have rests hidden and I can't get them to print and show within the score.

Hi Hilary,

Thanks for posting!

Just a couple of quick clarification questions:

1) You are selecting a region using the Measure tool, opening the Measure Attributes dialog box, and choosing Always Show from the Time Signature drop-down menu, correct? That seems to be the case. And, when you do, you only get a time signature to show on the first measure of the selected region, or the first measure of that time signature change? Would it be possible for you to take a screenshot of the errant result?

2) I may be misunderstanding your question about hidden rests. To clarify, you are saying that the rests are hidden, and you cannot get them to reappear correct? If so, you may wish to try selecting a region of measures that have hidden notes and/or rests in your score, and then choosing Plug-ins > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing > Notes and Rests (Show). As always, you may want to save a separate version of your file (File > Save As) before running plug-ins on large portions of your score.

Please let me know how that goes!

Here is the screen shot - if you look at m. 25 and m. 29 - this is where I'm trying to put the time signature and rests back in - I tried going to the Plug-ins and hide the notes and rests and then unhide but the rests are still shaded out. The exercise in m. 25 is in 4/4 and the m. 29 is in cut time - when I just tried again to highlight and click always show in the Edit Measure attributes nothing happened. Thanks for helping!

I tried putting a measure of no width and a contrasting time signature at the start of the second and third lines to force the time signatures there. It's not the most elegant work-around, but if you need it.

Lawson,

I think Hilary's problem is that she already has a 4/4 time signature earlier in her page, so getting the 4/4 to repeat is a problem in her exercises. That's why I inserted a (hidden) measure with a different time signature, to force 4/4 to reappear. Aparently hiding a time signature is easier than forcing one to show.
