Finale adds one or two extra links to its arpeggio signs, so that I am constantly adjusting their length. If they were one link shorter by default, the majority would be correct. And while I am now happy with my horizontal position settings for these signs, they still run into accidentals even though collision avoidance for articulations is checked. These issues are shown here:
The best solution would be an arpeggio sign designer box where users could specify the general length they prefer. And for collision avoidance to work for arpeggio signs.

Hi John:
Great suggestions. Yes, Finale has not improved in this area for a significant time. We are researching the issue and hope to make some improvements. Documented as FIN-4403.

That would be great. I also have requested about 7 or 8 times since as far back as 2006 that there be a downward arpeggio (rolled arpeggio symbol with downward arrow on bottom) in articulations to choose from. no response EVER and, obviously, it hasn't been added to articulations.

Thank you for the response, Michael. That is encouraging news.

William, I understand that they are working on SMuFL-compliant Finale fonts that will include many missing symbols. In the meantime, I use Bravura and other outside fonts to fill in where Maestro leaves off.

AFAIK it's rather simple to solve the vertical size problem: just use a music font that has a "single" length wiggle element instead of "double" length as in Maestro.

For example if you use the arpeggio sign from the free Lilypond fonts the default arpeggio length in Finale is fine (i.e. symbol UxE15B in Cadence, Emmentaler, Scorlatti etc.). All of these fonts are included in the free Elbsound Music Font Package for Finale. An arpeggio library is also on that website.

Thanks so much, Jan. I happened to have a font with a single squiggle and it worked perfectly.  The Elsbound arpeggio library worked just as well.

(For anyone else who is trying this, the regular Elbsound Finale font package doesn't include the single squiggle.  You must use the special arpeggio library file that the link in Jan's post above takes you to and put it in your User>Library>Application Support>Finale 2014.5 or whatever>Libraries folder. Then load into a Finale file and create an articulation metatool for one of the single squiggles that now appear.)

So all MM has to do is add such a glyph to their font libraries and work on collision avoidance with accidentals, and this will be a much improved feature.

I've just spent two hours adjusting every arpeggio sign in a modest 314 bar 20 minute piece for three performers. It would certainly be better not to have had to do this and to have a user controlled setting that would largely (there will always be exceptions) avoid the necessity.
