Why in the world would this function disappear?

I am writing music for 20 / 40 instruments, often i need to listen only sections at a time, now i need EVERYTIME check / uncheck dozens of instruments

before i could just check the instruments needed and after that,  hit the uncheck all

IT IS SO TIME CONSUMING

you guys never composed for more than a couple instruments?

It would be great to also implement a way to check / uncheck all instruments of a section, such as strings, woodwinds, brass. etc

Please put back those handy shortcuts

This version of finale is sincerely the worst i ever worked on

sincerely

Hi Matteo:

In Finale v25.1 we brought back the ability to click on "M" or "S" in the Score Manager to Mute all or Solo all as you used to be able to do in Finale 2011. Please let me know if you want a different behavior.

Hi Michael thanks so much!!!

you are very nice!

One think i can think of that in cases of big ensemble writings would help immensely and speed up the process would be to allow sections (such as strings, brass, woodwinds, percussions, etc) to have a mute all / none only for the section.

Because if often you need to check out only a section of 6 instruments for examples, the mute all / none helps only partially you still have to check those 6.

In the way i am suggesting you would have only one click.!

thanks again for your attention

Hi All;

Great idea on solo/mute families or groups of instruments. I've opened FIN-4558 to track the work.

That is an interesting proposition, and I'm trying to think how that might be enabled.

  1. Would Finale use its classification of instruments (from setup) as Woodwind, Brass, etc. to determine what a section is?
  2. Would Finale enable the feature to solo or mute Groups set up (and presumably named) by the user as part of the existing Staff/Groups process? (That approach would make working with add-on sound libraries--Garritan or otherwise--easier and the whole process more flexible.)

I DON'T work with big ensembles, but I'm working on a piano score. I can't use my hands to play a piano, so Finale is great for me because I can listen to what the part sounds like. I just started working with 2014.5 and I have the same question, I constantly want to hear what the L.H. sounds like without the R.H. I absolutely listen to each part inn choral score, and since most of what I do is SATB + piano, I am hoping there is a workaround.  It is very fast for me to "proof-hear" a part for accidentals and so on, but only if I can listen to it alone. Luckily I still have 2011, but I would hate to discover hat all that money and aggravation was so I could go back to 2011. I thought 2011 was ok, by the way, but I updated because I got a new computer.

This is already possible. In the Score Manager, click in the Solo column for the part (or parts) you want to hear alone.
