Hi,

Anyone know if there's a way to have finale create a transposition for a transposing instrument without changing the key? I have an atonal section in my piece and it always puts the clarinet in D.

Thanks so much!

Thanks so much - The tricky thing is that I need to do it within a score that has some tonal sections - is there a way to do it as a staff style?  Something that's only on part of the score?  I tried doing the interval transposition and it doesn't work correctly.

Thanks!

Hi David,

Are you setting up the atonal section with a keyless key signature, or using some other method? If you are not trying to change to a Keyless key in those section, that may help depending on the context and configuration of your instruments.

If you are using keyless, you can then create a staff style and use the Transposition option in the Staff Style dialog box to define a different transposition for the section of music and instrument to which it is applied.

If keyless and a staff style doesn't work in your case, just curious what undesirable result its producing? There may be an extra step to take that would help, just let us know!

Please put your version of Finale and your operating system info in your profile by pulling down your name in the gray area at the top of the page. It's hard to help without knowing what program you are using.

By setting the concert key of the atonal section to C major (which I expect you would do anyway) you can apply a staff style to that section that does not show the key signature. The transposition should work normally with accidentals replacing the missing key signature.

(You do know you could try this yourself on a demo file you create.)
