You can add pedal markings as Smart Shapes. If you show the Smart Shape Palette (Window > Smart Shape Palette) and then hold down the CTRL key (Windows) or the OPTION key (Mac) and click the Custom Line tool (it looks like a hexagon with an asterisk in it), you can choose one of the pedal markings. After choosing the pedal marking you wish to use, double-click and drag underneath a staff to assign it.

That is what I'm doing. Unfortunately I am not getting sustains in my playback either when I use the spacebar or when I hit "Play" on the transport controls in thee ribbon.  I have Human Playback set to Standard.

I don't suppose Finale would auto print pedal markings? It would be so cool for them to get automatically put into the score during hyperscribe, or have a way for you to add them in later like a control lane in other software.
