Bug Report:

Occasionally when adjusting a staff vertically by clicking on the box next to the left bar line with the staff tool, all of the music on the page disappears. leaving only the clefs, key signature, braces, page numbers and the vertical dimension measurement between the staves of a double-staffed part. This makes adjustment impossible. It has been reported by at least one other user at the old MM Forum.

It seems to have something to do with large text blocks on the page. I find if I delete a block or more, proper behavior is restored. So perhaps it is a memory issue.

Hi John,

Am I correct in understanding that this is happening on your Mac in Finale 2014.5? Does this happen with one/a few files, or even a newly created default document (File > New > Default Document)?

Also, would it be possible for you to post a screenshot of the page in question?

Hi Lawson, Sorry, Mac OS 10.8.5 Finale 2014.5.

It is impossible to take a screen shot because you have to hold down the mouse on the box to make it happen!  However, I now have better confirmation that it has everything to do with text blocks.

Simply create a very large text block on a single empty page of a single staff Finale default file and try it. Depress the mouse on the box, hold and watch all the whole measure rests disappear! if there are notes etc. they will vanish as well.

I can send you a file that displays the behavior if that would help.  It has 47 lines of text (9 pt Time New Roman) The  block occupies most of the staves on the page.

Obviously, a text block this large is rare.  But this file is completely empty.  Once notes are input into even a relatively small (5 or more page file) the behavior exhibits. even if there are somewhat small text blocks on each page.  Apparently it is the total amount of text that is the problem.

Hi John,

Thanks for posting those details.

I do think it would be best to test the file in question. I will open a support ticket in order to address the matter further.

Please keep an eye out for that email!
