I can't get dynamics to play back in layer 2-4. Any solution?

I'm using Finale 25.2 on macOS Sierra.

If you want independent dynamics on different layers, you are probably (from my experience) out of luck. If all your layers use the same instrument (on the same MIDI channel) you should be able to control them all (in lock step) simultaneously by setting the Expressions row for the staff/instrument to the common instrument in Score Manager.

But although that may be the best option, I don't find it altogether a good one. Finale should be able to do better to allow different instruments on different layers to be controlled independently.

Thanks for your help! Though, I'm using layer 2 for pizzicato in the strings, for example, so I cannot use your solution. Odd thing is that it seems to work in some instruments. However, layer 2 does not sound at all in one instrument, and in another there is a wrong sound. Suppose there are some bugs...

I have the strings divided throughout into 16 staves, so in the end perhaps it doesn't matter to much. I just have to be aware and try not to be too irritated. Just make music instead! Thanks!

You are then, presumably, not using a Garritan KS string sound, which would allow you to switch from arco to pizz without changing layers (via HP and expressions).

Thank you for the tip! I am actually using Garritan KS Strings, but it has not been working with the switches. But now when I investigated further I found out, that in HP preferences Instr. Tech for Garr strings was unchecked.

So now it works, great!!

BUT not for any of the cellos!!!

I am using the TG Tool for Easy harmonics. Then the playback for the cellos doesn't work either. Do you know if it should?

Do you have any solution for me?

I had no trouble getting cello harmonics to play using Easy Harmonics (from the included TG Tools). I wrote the notes as fourths, highlighted the measures, and ran the plug-in. Hope that helps.

It seems as if the cellos are not behaving like they should! I added new cellos from Score manager, and both pizzicato and harmonics are playing back as they should there.

I'm almost finished with my first movement of an orchestra piece. I have now prepared a new score for the next movement. I think playback is working there.

However I got a new problem!! When I'm trying to set up a new score from Setup Wizzard, Finale crashes! Perhaps I should open a new thread? But I do not have time to solve this just now, if you don't have an easy solution?

Thanks for the help anyway! All the best!
