  1. Enter (select) note.
  2. Hit the plus sign twice.

(Don't be afraid to try stuff out--on a copy of the original file, if you are worried about messing something up.)

This doesn't work anymore on Finale 27.  How is it done now?  Nothing in the user manual on this.

George Holloway,

You are using Windows Finale - right?

In my own copy of Mac Finale it works.

As a test, try instead by using the menu structure.

Going “the menu way” is tedious and time consuming, I know.

But if everything works “the menu way”, then we know that the problem is related to the computer keyboard.

In this example let us say that you need to enter F𝄪.

1) With the Speedy Entry Tool:

(position the crosshair on the note)

Speedy menu > Speedy Edit Commands > Raise Half Step (to get from F♮ to F𝄪, do it twice)

2) With the Simple Entry Tool:

(the note selected)

Simple menu > Simple Edit Commands > Accidentals > Double Sharp

or

Simple menu > Simple Edit Commands > Accidentals > Up Half Step (to get from F♮ to F𝄪, do it twice)

Enter an F# then raise it a half step with the plus key.

Thanks.  I wish when you search the manual that the keyword your searching for is highlighted, so one can scan through the article and find the exact place in the article where it is mentioned.  There is never an occassion when I'm not working on Finale in a desperate rush to finish something.  My life is just too busy.  I sometimes can't find the thing in the article I'm looking for even if it's there.  I don't know why I have this problem.

The other thing is that I've never seen those plus half/minus half buttons before.  In which edition of Finale did they appear?  I'm very surprised to see them!  Oddly, when I tried to use them initially, it wouldn't work.  They seem to work now.  As with many things in Finale, I don't know why I have problems with   and then I don't know why they work later.

I am now completely mystified by a problem with the MIDI not playing certain instruments-- and once again, I just need it to WORK IMMEDIATELY.  I can't see why that wouldn't be the case.  As far as I can see I've selected the instrument sound that I want to hear for the given part, and I don't see what else I would need to do.  So I'm going to have to make a separate post asking about this, and then I'll get replies too late, and perhaps two weeks later when I have time I'll be able to come back and see what people suggested, after it was already too late to help me.  This is the way it always goes with this program and me.  I know it must be something I've been doing wrong from the start with this program (when I started learning to use it 15 years ago!).

What browser are you using where the keyword is not highlighted? This is Chrome.

My life is just too busy.

George,

I hear ya man but keep in mind but all of us are busy too.  We are not MM employees just good folks. We offer advice from our decades of experience as a favor. I do not want to sound rude or presumptuous but it sounds like you have a lack of understanding on how Finale works.

For us to offer help we need to know the exact circumstances where Finale doesn't' do what it is supposed to or you don't think it is doing what it is supposed to. It is not very often that me or some of the other even more knowledgeable people here can't help. We can but we need as much info as you can give.

To further what Mike H said above, the highlighting works the same way for me, in Firefox.

As it does for me as well as the double sharp and flat.
