Finale 2014.5 corrupts or loses graphics that are embedded in previous versions

I have > 600 scores with an embedded logo, most of them made in Finale version 2012 or earlier (.mus files). When I wan't to correct or update one of these scores in Finale 2014.5, they are converted to a .musx file and the "placed graphic" shows as a blank rectangle with the EPS-file name in it, and it is even repeated on pages that had no embedded graphic before.

The placed EPS-graphic is still on my computer, in the same folder as before and when I right-lick it in Finale and choose "Show in Finder", it is found instantly.

Is this issue still present in the latest version of Finale?

Is there a quicker way to update all my scores, other than opening them one by one, select and delete the EPS- graphic and placing a JPEG-version of the logo in the score?

Hi Johan,

There is a known issue in later versions of Finale that can cause EPS graphics to point to a directory that Finale ultimately will not recogtnize. As best I can tell, this should only be happen if the file is being opened in later versions of Finale and then the "Link to file" option is choosen in Graphic Attributes.

So, a few questions, when you open the original .mus file (not the converted and resaved .musx) for the first time in Finale 2014.5, does the graphic show properly? Is it the act of saving and reopening the file that causes the graphic to disappear for you? Also, where on your computer is the graphic saved?

Please let us know. Ultimately, it may be good to open a support ticket so we can take a closer look at the files, but we will cross that bridge when we get there!

When I open a .mus file made with Finale 2012 (or earlier) in Finale 2014, it is automatically "converted" to .musx and the EPS-graphic does not show properly, as explained before. It also does not print anymore. So yes, the display is ruined before I can save the converted score.

The EPS-file opens correctly in Mac OS "Preview" (it is instantly converted to PDF)

I checked the Graphic Attributes in Finale and indeed the option "link to file" is chosen; it also shows the correct path of the EPS. This is in my "home"-folder on the same HD as Finale itself /Wreed&Plezant ƒ/illustraties/WP-3-logo.eps

Putting the graphic file in the "Finale 2014" folder and linking to it makes no difference.

Unchecking "link to file" does not repear the display - I did'nt expect it to. When I select another file to link to - a JPEG-version of the logo - from within the "Graphics Attributes"-window, the graphic display is OK and the print is OK too.

I tried to link to other EPS-files, they do not display or print either.

It seems that Finale 2014 abandoned support for EPS. Is this still the case in the newest version of Finale???

Hi Johan,

Well I know there are some complexities surrounding older, converted files. I do the Finale 2014 series and Finale v25 to be able to display EPS files properly.

Since that is the case, I will go ahead and open a support ticket for you so we can take a close look at the file. Please keep an eye out for that email!
