MUSIC SPACING when staff styles are applied

I very often use staff styles as an overlay over music that still plays back - actually the entire overlay idea is a smart move by Finale if you compare it to Sibelius.

In a typical situation, I would have a drum- or guitar-staff with rhythmic stuff going on, but there's a slash-notation staff style on top. Now, when it get's to music spacing, the notation underneath the style still somehow influences the spacing of the slashes - which I think it shouldn't.

So, (at least in the parts) the slashes should automatically use Time Signature Spacing - that's something I have to do manually all the time.

Hi Florian:

So, if I understand you correctly, you want a checkbox in the Staff Styles dialog boxes to ignore music spacing. Correct? In the meantime, you have this control in the Document Options - Layers. So you could put all your notation fill in layer 4 and then set layer 4 to ignore music spacing.

I'm also interested in what others think of this workflow and enhancement.

I concur that staff styles is one of Finale's major assets over the competition. It's also a feature very much in the Finale spirit of ultimate flexibility.

I'm not very concerned with playback myself, but I think that the ability to ignore music spacing for the entire staff would be an asset in cases where you might want total control over a particular staff and don't want automatic music spacing to affect manual adjustments. If this were included as a staff attribute, it would be a part of the staff style paradigm as well.

Yes. It would be a great time saver and another reason to go Finale over Sibelius.

Duly noted. FIN-4724. I confirmed in scores I found that slashes follow music spacing, while in the parts they are evently spaced.
