 XP 14d

I have a piece which ends on ppp, dying out to a whisper on the final long note.  That worked in 11b, but when I moved it to 14d the final note gives a dynamic swell, completely destroying the intended effect.  I presume there is some combination of adjustments available in the HP system, but I haven't found one yet.

What happens if you turn off HP just as an experiment?

No swell on the final note, but also no dim. or rit. in the previous eight measures, just a sudden drop off in dynamic level at theend of the hairpin wheb it reaches the PPP mark.  Elsewhere, ff plays pp and pp plays ff, etc.  And a sFFz plays a nice gentle legato ppp

Then it appears the problem is indeed in the HP settings and not ingrained in the MIDI of the old file. I would try different HP styles first to see if one helps and then examine the settings for dynamics in that style to see how they differ from the one you were using.

I wish I were more of an HP guru, but I am not. You could also use the "Submit a request" link above to see if MM Support can give more specific help. Opening a case will allow you to send them the offending file.

Hello and thanks in advance for your help

The dynamics for my compositions aren't working well. Finale help told me to get to the Expression Designer box, hit playback, choose key velocity, go to "set to value" and enter a value from 0 to 27 - 27 being the loudest. But it's not working because the values I'm entering are not holding. The key velocity number I enter into the "set to value" disappears after I hit "OK". I noticed that in the Expressin Selection box a blank space appears every time I enter a key velocity. That blank space works as far as the dynamics in playback are concerned, but on the "chart" there is no marking ...in this case the desire or "p" (soft) is heard in playback but there is no marking "p" on the page.

How do I get the key velocity to work with the marking on the page?....thanks again for any help with this

Barney,

The loudest value is 127, not 27.

27 would still be very soft.
