HI,

Using Print Music Finale 2010 on Windows 7 at 64x

I am entering lyrics for a choir SATB and when I enter the last word on a page (I have managed 4 bars on the soprano part)  and move to the next page there appears a solid line where I would normally continue entering lyrics. I have gone into the Lyrics menu and turned word extension on and off but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Greg

Thanks J Adrian, but there are no other lyrics anywhere. I just got started and have managed only 4 bars before I got the line or the "shaf"t.

GOT IT!

As I am visually impaired I tend to work in twice ZOOM  page mode.

I tried lyric entry at the standard opening page size and no more problems with the mysterious line.

Praise the Lord and pass the absolution, I am saved! (at least in terms of this composition:-))

Thanks to all who considered this problem.

Best regards to legacy users,

I type in at 100%, & I also get a "line" that serves as an infinite "word extension" if I switch to a different tool (usually to make an on-the-spot edit I discover needs to be made).  Although it is visually annoying as I resume typing in lyrics, it disappears once the tool used changes again (but if I'm not done, it is there again at the last-typed syllable.)

I have found that if it was at a point of a double barline, the word extension stops at that point.

Here are 2 ideas if it happens again:

1.put a "temporary" double barline at the end of each page before adding lyrics & later switching them back to normal.

2. add lyrics in scroll view so there is a "continuous feed" so that there is no switching the task Finale is focusing on (i.e. page "turning")

(I have found in Finale 2010 that if I type lyrics in a zoomed page, the lyrics appear on screen at 100% & then have a delayed "explosion" to the larger font as I progress.  It can be disconcerting!)

Hope that is useful info to you!

Thanks Karen,

Those are great ideas. I can see you are way ahead of me on the frustration leading to solutions line :=)

Thanks again

Greg

PS The Account is in my wife's name, i.e. Welwyn Wilton Katz. She has published 10 books for children-young adults ages 8-18 and even won a Govenor General's Award here in Canada. She bought the program when she used to teach flute but now it's all mine bwahahaha!

Hi Greg....just came across your post. I'm running Windows 10, and my old Print Music 10. I found that I can delete all red lines this way:

1. Click on the lyrics tool

2. Go to Lyrics in the toolbar

3. Select edit word extensions(little boxes will appear at the end of any red lines)

4. move your cursor onto a line you want to remove, and pull the line all the way left to the previous word until it disappears.

Or right-click on the extension's handle and choose "Delete"

Thanks Gloria and J Adrian.

I figured out it was because I was in zoom mode. The lines disappeared at normal 100% view.

Same problem in Finale 2010 - and those pesky extension PRINT!!

The solution of "edit word extensions" works! Thank you for the solution!!!

Greg's solution saved the day for me.  I was zoomed in at 200%.  Backed off to 100% and found the extension handle to delete the unwanted extension.

Sometimes unwanted extension lines represent a lyric that has ended on a different layer.
