I don't really need the measure number bar and I have to turn it off every time I open any document. How about a tick-box in preferences or anywhere else?

In the meantime, you can make a template that doesn't show measure numbers and save it in the "document styles" folder. From here you can have it for whenever you open the setup wizard. Or even better, you could set this template as the "default document" in the "new" sub-category of preferences.
