How do I beam across bass and treble staff and also make a tie? In 4/4 time, I want to beam an eighth note in the bass clef to an eighth note in the treble clef, and then tie the second eighth note to a half note in the treble clef. Windows 10, Finale 25. Jenniferemadden@comcast.net

Hi Jennifer,

You can do this using one of the functions that Finale has for cross-staff notation. Check out this blog post for a quick tip on one way to do this: http://www.finalemusic.com/blog/finale-quicktips-cross-staff-beaming/

Since you want to tie in the upper staff, I recommend writing your two eighth notes in the upper staff and then using the SHIFT+ALT+Down arrow (or OPTION+Down arrow [Mac]) shortcut to move the note down.

Hope this helps!

P.S. You may want to use the Beam Angle Tool to edit your beam after the fact.

Ok. Thanks. I was trying to do this by starting both eighth notes in the lower staff, but then the tie wouldn't work.
