OS 10.12.3 on MAC.

I have both Finale 25.3 and Finale 2014.5 installed on my system.

The reason I have both is that somethings work better in Finale 2014.5 and others in Finale 25.3

For example, FinalScript in Finale 2014.5 changes a directory of mus files to musx properly whereas the same operation in Finale 25.3 crashes.

On the other hand, I cannot resize the palettes in Finale 2014.5 to a single column but I can do it in Finale 25.3

Can I make one of these the default Finale program when I double click a musx file or open an xml file?

Hi Derek,

On a Mac you can definitely set up your file preferences so that these files open by default in the program you choose. Locate a .musx file, then right-click on this and choose Get Info. In the Info window that opens, scroll down and you will see the section for Open with:. Here you can choose which version of Finale you would like the .musx file to open in.

I hope this helps.
