Finale not saving rests in MIDI file

Mac 2011 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 Sierra 10.12.5; Finale 2016

The problem: I'm exporting a MIDI file from Finale. The midi file has no rests - it quantises the notes to compensate. It used to be fine, just what you'd expect, rests and everything.

Top screenshot shows an original couple of bars in Finale; second shows Band in a Box MIDI import; third shows Finale MIDI import - so it's obviously not BIAB, it's a problem at export in Finale.

Annoyingly, the parts are reversed when imported to Finale, though that's no big deal, just a niggle.

Yes, you have come to the right place.

Unfortunately I seldom export MIDI files, so I can not help you with your problem.

Have you tried MusicXML export/import instead of MIDI? This should prove to be better (I'm assumimg that your build of BIAB is new enough to support .xml import).

In Finale 25.4, you will need to Export the file as .xml, not .musicxml (default) for BAIB to be able to import. Read Michael Good's post in this thread.

Yes, I already thought of .xml, which BIAB does import.

Unfortunately I get the exact same result.

Although I have never before touched the MIDI settings in Finale, I just went to MIDI/Audio>Quantization Settings>More Settings and turned OFF (unticked) Minimize Number of Rests. This has made no difference either.

Hopefully, MM Support can find the fault. For kicks, I exported a test file both MIDI and .xml into BIAB 2017 Audiophile and had no issues with missing Rests. Sumpin's goin on...

It's weird. MM Support looked at the MIDI file and yes, the rests are in there - but both BIAB and Finale are importing it without. Also weird: the Mac plays the MIDI file fine in the Finder.
