Using Aria player (multi) in Sibelius was excellent, and the sounds were great.

Suddenly all is mute.

I can go to the instrument tabs and load an instrument of my choice (GPO 4, GPO 5, JABB) but when I check the info, only the creen of GPO 5 is shown, when I load from JABB, or GPO 4, I see the SFZ screen.

And everything (including the GPO 5 instruments) is absolutely mute.

Looking at page 5 of Aria Multi, settings, I find Aria is only searching for SFZ folders, a format that does not apply to any Garritan product. How can I have this fixed?

BTW, when using the same ARIA (Multi) in Sonar, some of the important boxes are missing. While in Sibelius, you can open and save files by clicking on one of the two icons at the upper left, but in Cakewalk Sonar, I do not see those icons at all.

What has happened, please? Help - !!!

Any solutions yet?  I've had weird problems each time I've tried to load my JABB.  Currently, nothing is playing in tune, even with zero changes to any dial which could possibly affect intonation.  So I'm going to look around for a forum, probably to get another e-mail reply telling me that I've e-mailed the wrong place...

I understand that one must continue to make money after selling software, but if I'd been able to get tech support, I would have been making money from selling music, and purchasing upgrades for the last six years...

Werner,

I realize this is an old thread and hopefully you've long had your issue fixed.  In your case it seems like it might be a good idea to simply reinstall everything.  Make sure you have the latest version of ARIA, which you can get by logging into your MakeMusic Account and searching for ARIA updates.

Also, just for information sake, all of the instruments in Garritan Libraries for ARIA are done using SFZ opcodes in text files with the sfz extension.

Jon,

First, check that you have not tuned any of the instrument slots.  Notice how the Cornet in Slot 1 has been tuned 7 cents sharp.  One can change this value by click-hold-dragging the variable up or down with the mouse.

Next, check that you have not loaded an alternate tuning system (Scala file *.scl) in the "Settings" tab of ARIA.  Equal temperament tuning is usually the default.

If all that checks out.......

I 'twice' had a similar problem to yours; however it was not the fault of ARIA or the Garritan Libraries.

Instance 1:  My AKAI MPK268 was sending erroneous Pitch Bend events at random.  In my case I needed a new pot for the pitch bend wheel in the MPK261.  My MPK261 was out of warranty so I elected to fix it myself.  Until I received the new part, I simply disconnected the Pitch Bend wheel.

One can also use software (or via settings in the DAW) to filter out Pitch Bend events.  You can also set each instrument slot in ARIA to ignore Pitch Bend events.  This approach makes sense if your keyboard is sending erroneous pitch bend events but you do not wish to open the thing to disconnect any wires (not a good idea if you still have warranty on your board, or aren't comfortable working on it yourself).

If you suspect something like this 'might' be your problem, and your DAW doesn't have simple MIDI Monitor interface included, you could grab something like MIDI Ox (for PC), or Snozie MIDI Monitor (For Mac) to test the hypothesis (check to see if your MIDI controller might be acting up and sending things it shouldn't, when it shouldn't).

Instance 2:  There was some variant of CuBase 9 (I forget exactly which one) that had a bug in which some of my VST/i plugins were playing out of tune.  The bug was fixed with an update from Steinberg.  If you happen to be using CuBase, make sure you have the latest version that your dongle license covers.

It might also be that at some point Pitch Bend events were sent to some of your instruments, and ARIA is still remembering the last one sent.  If your DAW has a MIDI 'reset' button, tap that.  It should send in the least a CC121 event which means 'reset all continuous controllers'.  You could also send a CC121 @ 127 event to ARIA by your own means (a programmable button on your MIDI keyboard, or via sequencer).

If sending CC121 doesn't fix it, or you're having trouble finding a way to send CC121,127 try reloading the instrument slots.  Set them all empty, then reload the instruments.

P.S.  Here is a link to file a support ticket for Garritan Products.

https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I have only needed to use it twice (Once for rolling back to earlier versions of Finale, and once for an obscure system driver related issue with ARIA) and I got a rather speedy and productive reply both times.

Hey, Brian--

It's been a while, but while looking for something else, found this old thread, and your tuning comments reminded me that I wanted to try something on JABB, which I did, to great effect!  So thanks, and enjoyed reading your comments at length on DAWs in a different thread.
