The Cautionary Accidentals plug-in default is two measures for some reason.

I've never seen a conventional score that applies them for two measures.

It's annoying to have to change it to one measure every time the plug-in is accessed.

How about a way to change the default to what is more commonly used, one measure?

Hi Jerry and all:

I've documented the request as FIN-5194. Yes, preferences should be stored for the plug-in, the measure reset could change to 1, and there are several other things the plug-in should do. If in fact, it should even be a plug-in is a lovely question as well.

In the meantime, you could write a FinaleScript with an assigned keyboard shortcut to call the plug-in and fill in your preferences. You could also use Auto Hotkeys or Keyboard Maestro to save the time.

The FinaleScript might look something like:

Plug-in "Cautionary Accidentals…"

type 1 near "Reset After"

Check "Courtesy Naturals"

//select radio button "Always"

''Check "Layer 3"

Click OK

There are quite a few composers, and editors, using courtesy accidentals after even more than two measures - it's very context sensitive. All the same I agree with you - the default should be one measure. Two doesn't make sense.

Best yet, make it user-defineable.

Mike, can we agree upon the default being one measure, with user-definable options?

Absolutely, since that is (AFAIK) the most common default. But of course, we would have to be able to specify how to define the usage.

One-measure default seems in line with standard practice.

How one would program a user-defined to persist on a plug-in is an interesting question since plug-ins (even Finale's own) are independent, stand-alone add-on's. (I'm not asking for ad hoc suggestions here!)

I wonder how much trouble it would be for the creator of the plug-in to make the change.

Hey, how do you folks change the font size and color on your footnotes, and add a picture? I don't see those options anywhere.

Go to Your Account (your name) at the top right of this page, My Profile, and Edit Profile. At the bottom of that page, there is a "description" panel. You can add your system description there.
