We have fretboards in finale already.  How about woodwind fingering diagrams that can attach to events similar to fretboards?  In my line of work, it is incredibly cumbersome to craft, and distribute, fingering diagrams, guides, and tests for woodwind instruments in Finale.  It involves a combination patience and more patience.  This feature would speak to all educators of beginning band students seeking to make study guides, tests, methods, and other curricula using Finale.  If implemented correctly, this could save us hours upon hours!

Hi John:

I would point out that we provide fingering charts that you can access from the file menu / Open Worksheets & Repertoire / Worksheets / (6000) Games, Flash Cards, Fingerings. We do not plan to provide further functionality at this time. There are also fonts on the market that might prove helpful as has been mentioned.

You can create fretboard diagrams that look like woodwind fingering diagrams.

But perhaps you already knew that.

In the Fretboard Instrument Definition, set the Number of Strings to 2, and go from there.

Another option is using a font with ready made fingering diagrams.

Here is an example:

Basically, you need the fingering diagrams either as a font or as custom shapes. Have a look at this site for suggestions: http://www.rpmseattle.com/of_note/specialty-music-fonts-to-create-woodwind-brass-fingering-charts-in-a-score/ . You can then set them up as expressions and assign them via metatools.

For my work as a brass teacher, I needed brass fingerings which should be assigned automatically to each note. Brass fingerings are numbers, so they're easy to be set up as text expressions. I wrote a JWLua script to assign them to a selected region. Do you need automatic assignment for a region of notes? Have a look at it: https://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?f=11&m=474054
