When I try to save my Finale 14 file I'm getting:

Error 2 copying file. "C:\Users\marybeth\AppData\Local\Temp\FIN60C9.tmp" to

The system cannot find the file specified

What's wrong and how do I fix it or save another way?.

This sounds like Finale may be losing sight of its temporary files location, or potentially the file in question itself. If you cannot save currently, there are a couple of things you can try.

1. Try using File > Save As to save another version of the file.

2. If the that does not work, you will want to save as much of the file as possible using MusicXML. You can create a MusicXML file out of your score by choosing File > Export > MusicXML. You can then import the file later by choosing File > Import > MusicXML (you may have to do this after quitting and reopening the program). This will create a new version of your score with as much info saved as it can get.

Once you have some version of your score back, you will want to try creating a new temporary directory on your desktop for Finale to use in the future. This is a precautionary measure to attempt to avoid this error moving forward. You can do so by following the steps below:

1. Create a new folder on your Desktop called "Finale Temporary".
2. Open Finale.
3. Close the Launch Window and any other messages you may see, then choose Edit > Preferences.
4. Select Folders along the left.
5. Click the Browse button corresponding to the Temporary Files directory field.
6. Choose the folder that you created on your Desktop from the Browse for Folder window that appears.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Apply.
9. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
10. Close and reopen Finale.

I hope this information helps! If you run into further trouble, I would highly recommend contacting our support team directly (using the Submit a request link at the top of this page) for additional assistance.

One of the added benefits of using a "User Defined" Temp folder for Finale is that from time to time you can open it and erase any files that may have built up there and have not been automatically deleted. Some users feel this manual clearing out of the Temp files helps Finale run more smoothly in the long run.
