I am having a really difficult time with Hyperscribe in 12/8. I am trying to record in finale with Hyperscribe in 12/8 and have marked 55= a dotted quarter note EVERYWHERE. I went into playback controls to make sure it's a dotted quarter etc. But when i go to record, it plays what sounds like 6 half notes and then moves on to the next bar. How do I make the click play 4 dotted quarter notes?

I am in Finale 2014.5 and on a mac computer OS X El Capitan.  Thank you for your help! I am on a deadline!

You are right. There is something very strange going on when one uses a dotted quarter beat. The 2-measure count-off clicked 12 times before hyperscribe recording started. That is the equivalent of 3 4/4 measures rather than 2 12/8 measures.

I would suggest using the "Submit a request" link above to submit this problem directly to MakeMusic. Unless I am missing some obvious solution, this is a problem they will want to correct.

Hi all!

I helped Celisse resolve this issue, and though it might be helpful to others if I posted the solution here (in case others found this via a web search).

The solution is to set the tempo in the HyperScribe Options - here are the steps:

  1. Launch Finale and open your document
  2. Select the HyperScribe Tool
  3. Choose HyperScribe > Beat Source > Playback and/or Click
  4. Choose the "Use This Tempo:" radio button and set the value to 55 and the 'Beat Equals:" to a dotted quarter note
  5. Click the 'OK' button to close the dialog box
  6. Try the HyperScribe function

I hope this might help others!
