I am running Finale 25 and GPO5 on a Windows 10 computer.  I find that on the strings "KS (GOS)" sounds, when I put a bowed tremolo mark in the score, I get anything but a tremolo - I get staccato or pizz. instead.  Unlike GPO5, GPO 4 in the same score gives me the Key Switch sound I asked for.  What is wrong here?  It is useless to me if I can't get the key switches to respond as they should in a finale score.  When is a fix coming? - I see I am not the only one with this problem on the forum.

Putting a mute in a score also does not work.

The new Orchestral Strings do not have an 'umetered tremolo' sample.  So you can either instruct Finale to truly interpret and play the ornamentation (you'll also want it to engage legato CC68), or you can have it channel bounce to an unmetered tremolo instrument from the legacy section strings.

You'll need to disable the old GPO4 techniques and tweak out GPO5...or disable GPO5 Techniques and use the legacay string instruments.

To get mutes with new GOS Strings, either add a technique that sends CC71,127, or assign it directly to a text or symbol expression (right click the text or symbol and add a Controller 71, 127 event to the "expression definition".  for senza sordino, you'd send CC71,0.

If you just want to go back to the old GPO setup, simply disable the newer GPO5 string techniques in Human Playback and choose the Legacy Instruments in the Score Manager.  If you still have GPO4 installed, you can also select that as the Preferred Automatic Library, but you'll still need to disable those newer GPO5 Techniques in Human Playback....why?  They seem to conflict with the old GPO4 techniques at times (someone didn't do proper filters).

Here's a thread that 'might' help if you want to explore trying to tweak out GPO5 so it behaves better in Finale.

I spent a few minutes taking a closer look, and there does indeed seem to be a problem with the Legacy String techniques in Human Playback conflicting.  I typically don't use strings much so I'll have to take a little time tweaking and testing.

I'll try to post a replacement set of playback options aimed a fixing this and giving a little better default playback soon.  It'll be a partial xml file that can copy and paste into your "%USERPROFILE%/AppData/Roaming/MakeMusic/Finale/Configuration Files/preferences.humanplayback.xml" file.

Have a look at this Score.  It includes modified Human Playback Techniques.

Hopefully they saved as part of the score, and you should be able to import this profile to your own setup by going into "Edit/Preferences/Human Playback" and toggling the "Attach to" check box off.  If that doesn't make a copy of the profile in your Human Playback Preferences Set, please let me know and I'll make a bit of xml avilable that can be pasted into your  "preferences.humanplayback.xml" file.

I just realized I forgot to attach the version that includes switches for Legacy Solo Strings.

As of 10pm CST on 5/11/2017 the link above in the OP has been updated with a fixed version.

Also note, that for some scores when using mutes on the Legacy Strings, you might need to disable the alternate Up and Down Bow techniques.  It's usually not a problem but if you have a score that keeps triggering unmuted key-switches for staccato or spicatto notes, then simply toggle off the Up/Down Bow Techniques, or change them to "Custom Text".

Well, although this thread is two years old, I found exactly that for which I was looking:

To get mutes with new GOS Strings, either add a technique that sends CC71,127, or assign it directly to a text or symbol expression (right click the text or symbol and add a Controller 71, 127 event to the "expression definition". for senza sordino, you'd send CC71,0.

I am using Windows 7, and Finale 26.1 with GPO5.

I have tried all of the keyswitches (con sordino, con sord., mute, etc) but to no avail.

THANK YOU, Brian for not only the reply to the post, but also for the clarity.

So, my question is: how did you know to select Controller 71 (Timbre) to effect the muted strings?

Is there a list somewhere of all the controllers and what they control?

I would not have guessed selected "Timbre" to effect the "con sordino."

Thank you!
