With a large score, your list of technique and expressive text can get pretty cumbersome (even if you're careful not to make duplicates) and take some time to scroll through to find the desired marking (this is after using up all the metakeys). Barring coming up with a category for every situation possible to keep yourself organized, I think there should be a little search box in the Expression Selection dialogue box to at least narrow down by text string, seeing that many of the markings in question are made up of text. I wonder if this would be easy to implement.

Hi Alex and all:

This is a great suggestion that we want to implement. It is similar to this request for searching and sorting of the selection dialog box. The complexity resides in the fact that this dialog box is used any many places throughout the application with custom code and tech debt. Nevertheless, it is long overdue and should be native functionality in the app, I agree with you. I've added your comments to FIN-4319 in our backlog.

I have a huge collection of text expressions that are not included in the standard Finale Libraries because I use a lot of extended techniques for all the instruments. A search function would certainly speed things up for me. Thanks for bringing it up.

Yes, but it'd be great to not have to pay an extra $100 for a search box plugin. Also seems like that TGTool feature was designed before Category Designer came along to handle styling (I am guessing), so it contains extra functions that Finale either already does just fine/would be unnecessary/would be icing on the cake.

Just a simple search box is all I ask from MakeMusic.

TG Tools that comes with Finale does not have a search function. Maybe someone from Make Music can tell us why this is such a tough request?

Philip, Dean is suggesting that you purchase the TGTools plug-ins. They make a bunch of additional plug-ins aside from the default set that comes with Finale. But I am in agreement with you.

Thanks, Alex. And thanks, Dean. I still think this search function is overdue unless there's some compelling code reason for not doing it.

Anyone from Finale seen this yet?

Philip, if you vote up my original post with the arrows to the left, it will be more likely that this will be seen sooner.

Thanks Michael. You're right, they're similar.
