Here's what I'd like to do -- and also think would be useful to the majority of users.

  1. Select the Crescendo tool.
  2. Select Smart Shape menu > Smart Shape Options…
  3. Under Crescendo/Decrescendo, add two fields:
    a. Left Start: Position…
    b. Right End: Position…


The publisher that employs me requires hairpins to start a tad after the beat and end just a bit before the beat.

I must constantly adjust hairpin length manually, so user-selectable settings for start and end positions (and for all lines, custom or not, while you're at it ^_^) would be a great boon to humankind.

Yes, this is highly desired functionality that was not implemented with the snapping of hairpins in 2014. I'm tracking it as FIN-4089 and hope to address in the near future.

You have a point. While one can adjust some of the offsets for slurs, trills, and the like, Finale gives no SmartShape options to adjust the offsets of hairpins. (Funny, I always assumed they had done that along with all the other features to customize SmartShapes.)
