MacOS has a setting in System Preferences->Dock for the action to take on double-clicking in a window's title bar. The Cocoa UI Finale versions (2014+) ignore this setting and do nothing when you doubleclick the title bar.

This is a big regression from Fin12 and earlier. It means that the only option for zooming a window requires two hands. (This is because the idiots at Apple decided to change the zoom button to a full-screen button starting in I believe 10.10.) That makes it inconvenient for me and impossible (or extremely difficult) for someone with less than two hands. Plus since all other windows in other apps behave according to the setting, it is hard to remember to option-click in Finale and Finale alone.

Hi Robert and Doug:

I can confirm that Finale 2014.5 does not acknowledge the setting of the Sys Pref - Dock. However, 25.4. does work with the preference. I believe we fixed this with 25.1 when we added support for Tabbed Windows and Sierra. I did my testing in 10.12.6, FWIW.

Please let me know if your mileage varies.

I agree it would be great to have that function (feature?) back - it would definitely be the quickest option to minimize a window in the workflow.

I would use it regularly when using a smart board and LCD projector (no keyboard) while giving a presentation or demo in front of a class, and using the smart board's touch features and/or needing multiple windows/views pre-loaded for quick access during a presentation.

There are three current ways (that I am aware of) to minimize a window in 2014+:
1. mouse to menu item: Window > Minimize.
2. mouse to the yellow dot in the title bar (top, left corner) and click it - on my system ( OS X 10.11.6) it minimizes the window.
3. press Command-M.

Double-clicking the title bar in Finale 25.4 does not have any effect in Mac 10.11.6, irrespective of the System Prefs setting.

HI - I can also confirm that in Finale 25.4 - the double click does not work in Mac OS X.

Hi All:

Again, this is working for me in 10.12 in 25.4.

Michael I hear you saying you don't give a flip about 10.11. And I can't really argue too hard with that. But my concern would be that since it does not work in 10.11, it clearly is not implemented correctly even in 10.12. Personally that would worry me.

Hi Robert:

I only reported on 10.12 because that was what I could easily access. I'd also have to check on how Apple changed the behavior when they added Tabbed windows in 10.12. So, I wouldn't be surprised by 2014.5 in 10.11 behaving differently than 25 in 10.12. Having said all that, I do recall a conversation with the dev at the time we hooked up tabbed windows in 25.1 and acknowledging there was some deeper legacy tech debt to how Finale handles document windows. So, yes, it is absolutely possible that we've not been able to be fully backward compatible in window handling in all OSs that v25 supports. This supports what you're reporting. You're not the only one worried about how the document window is handled by Finale, but that isn't new -- it is all part of our tech debt and we are diligently working to address it.
