It would be very helpful to have a Tempo Tap feature on the playback window, or even better, to have it mapped to a keystroke.  In Band-in-a-Box, it is mapped to the "-" and "=" buttons, but I know this is not possible with Finale, as those buttons are frequently in use.  But it would be a substantial improvement.  I would even pay for a new version that featured that as an upgrade.

Hi John:

Great suggestion. We do want to improve the creation and editing of tempo before and during playback. I've added your suggestion to story FIN-4344 for this work. Thank you for post.

From examining the TempoTap, it appears to be more for "conducting" tempo changes and expressive time-based events.  I'm looking for something that's next to the tempo entry on the playback controls that allows you to QUICKLY adjust the overall playback tempo via a tap.  Currently (if I'm not mistaken), you have to make these adjustments by highlighting the tempo and entering another number.

This feature could also be incorporated into SmartMusic, to great applause by me! :)  Highlighting and entering numerical tempo data is not cool when you're in a classroom and you've got a lot of kids to keep playing.  For both Finale and SmartMusic.

Ah, I see what you mean now. That would be a nifty addition. Finale's playback controls look truly antediluvian when compared with other notation programs. Overture 5 has a slider under the the playback controls that allows you to adjust tempo proportionally in real time.

And SmartMusic has a slider feature to set tempo too, the thing for both Finale and Smartmusic software is, when I need a tempo, I know the tempo I am going for, but not necessarily in number form.  I have to tap it into a Dr. Beat, then transfer it.
