I get two "alerts" every time I create a new document.

"can't create log file in C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Garritan\ARIA Player\ARIA PlayerVST_Finale.log"

and

"can't create log file in C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Plogue\Aria\AriaEngine_Finale.log"

I have done a search on the internet but even the plausible answers do not say HOW to fix this - STEP BY STEP.

I have the newest Finale 25, running on Windows 8.1

Hi Michael,

That sounds like it could be related to a permissions issue or possibly a corruption in the ARIA Player. My suggestion to start troubleshooting this would be to:

1. Run the latest installer for the ARIA Player again. This should replace any corrupt components and ensure that you are on the latest version of the ARIA Player.

2. If this doesn't work, it may be wroth trying a reinstallation of the software including the Garritan components. To get steps for this and further guidance, my recommendation would be to contact our Customer Success team using the Submit a request link at the top of this page.

So, three years later (Finale Version 26.3.1.520, ARIA Engine v1.872), this is still a problem. I tried the re-install of ARIA Player with no improvement. The error either causes Finale to "create" a score document with no staves, or to close (crash?).

I looked in the file locations mentioned in the error messages and noticed that the named files already existed, but with an older creation date, along with other files in each folder. Summoning up my 53 years of computer/IT experience, I realized that, if the software could not "create" a file that already exists, the most likely cause of the problem is that the respective routine that attempts to create each file most likely uses a mode of opening that fails if the file already exists, and that the routine, rather than handle this as a reasonable exception, simply fails, causing other downstream failure(s). A well designed routine would either have deleted the old log file (possibly after prompting the user for permission), or retried the open with a mode that would append new log file entries.

I spent the last 15 years of my IT career designing workarounds and data repair for poorly designed code, so I tried what seemed to me to be the most likely approach. I deleted the old files in each of the folders with the result that after retrying the "New Document with Setup Wizard" operation, I now have a properly initialized blank score on the screen with no error messages.

Your results are not typical. I am sorry you are having trouble.

The current (Windows) version of the Aria Player is 1.959

and the version of the Aria engine is 1.967.
