Hi.

I'd love to suggest that Aria player and Aria engine are available also with plugin format *aax.

The sad story behind this is that Gibson has killed off Cakewalk, the product will neither be sold nor developped anymore. (Please see http://www.cakewalk.com/Gibson-Announcement.)

As a user of Sibelius (8.7.2) it was a small step for me to replaye my #1 DAW Cakewalk Sonar by ProTools (12.8.2), but alas, ProTools takes only plugins with the format .aax.

I actually love the crisp and clear sound of the Garritan P.O., as well as the J.A.B.B., and I would be devastated to miss them in my further work when using a DAW.

As far as I am aware you can use ARIA with Pro Tools.  RTAS (.aax) plugins are included with the ARIA player.  Note you might need to download and reinstall the latest version of ARIA player if you chose not to install these before.

https://usermanuals.garritan.com/GarritanIntegration/Content/pro_tools.htm

I've seen some stuff about the internet that the old RTAS stuff is blacklisted from newer versions of Pro Tools.  If I'm wrong, and Plogue hasn't updated ARIA to compensate for this I suppose you'd need some sort of bridge to use VST/au etc.

https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-page/2013/7/10/7-ways-to-host-vst-or-au-plug-ins-in-pro-tools-11-and-earlie.html

I don't do Pro Tools, but I'm a registered Bidule user (for a long list of purposes).  I love it.  You can get the fully functional (as a reWire host) free demo version that should be just what you need from here:

https://www.plogue.com/downloads/

Bidule should get you access to your Garritan libraries again.  Plogue 'might' even give you a discount for a Bidule license as a Pro Tools user who owns Garritan Libraries (After all, ARIA is their baby)?  Of course I can't make promises on someone else's account, but It would not hurt to fire them an email explaining your investment in Garritan Libraries and ask....

So that blog article is from 2013. What about 4 years later? :-) Is that promise still unsolved, that "MakeMusic is currently evaluating the scope and technical challenges involved in developing an AAX plugin."  ?

I am subscribing to that article hoping to see any news.

Sorry, I was mistaken.

Just to let all know who are as uncertain as I was: The actual Aria Player version 1.872 (with Aria engine version 1.933) comes with .aax plugin dll, I deinstalled it, and reinstalled it, checking the .aax box.

After that, I could load the Aria player in PT and select any instrument, or combination of instruments, to work with.

The only thing that puzzles me is that, switching on effects (ambience and / or convolution reverb), I did not hear any change, the instruments play absolutely "dry". But that does not bother me too much, I have besides the generic PT effects, some really nice and luxurious reverb boxes for PT running.
