When I use both staccatos and finger numbers, the numbers will only go UNDER the staccato. Is there any way to turn off the grid so that I can place the finger numbers where and in what order I choose?

Welcome to the forum!

We need more info from you:

- What version of Finale?

- Windows Finale or Mac Finale?

- What tool are you using for staccatos and fingerings? - Expression Tool? - Articulation Tool? - Or?

In that case the culprit is probably the feature of “stacking” articulations on the same note (to avoid articulation collisions).

Two options:

1) The articulations will be stacked in the order they appear in the window Articulation Selection.

By changing the order in the Articulation Selection you can move the staccato to the other side of the fingering.

2) You can de-select the option {Stack Automatically} (Look in the Articulation Designer).

However, this option is articulation specific (not tool specific).

You will have to de-select the option for each articulation you need to position manually.
