When I open a file and I want to save it in finale v27, I have to browse folders to find the right one. Would be more convenient if it automatically opens the folder in which the file exists.

In file preferences, I leave the default save location blank, and this seems to help do what you seem to be asking.

Thanks Adrian,

Well yes, it's a solution to redirect the user to a mainfolder, but

1) my files are not always in that folder, and

2) my file might be in a subfolder of a subfolder of a subfolder etc.

Why not press 'save file' and be directed to the folder in which the file is? The option that you mention could still be used for 'new' files.

I agree that this is a serious issue, and the above is not actually a workaround.

Leaving the "Music" folder blank causes Finale to default to the last touched folder, which might seem like the same as "the folder the file is in", but it's not really.  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Have 2 different music files in two different folders
  2. Open File A from Folder A
  3. Open File B from Folder B
  4. Switch to File A, and go to Save As...
  5. Finale will attempt to Save File A to File B's folder, since it was more recently used.
