Mac 2017, OS Monterey, Finale V 27

Hi, until recently, I was using Mac OS Big Sur. If I closed Finale with the SELECTION tool or SPEEDY ENTRY tool, I would find that on re-opening Finale it would take a second or more for a mouse adjustment of a tuplet position to register on the screen. However, when I closed Finale with the SIMPLE ENTRY tool, this problem would not occur. Problem solved.

Unfortunately, I recently upgraded my OS to Monterey and the work around solution that was effective with Big Sur no longer works. This is very frustrating as a straight forward tuplet adjustment that should take less than half a second now takes 5 or more seconds.

I would be very grateful to know if there are any workaround solutions or if this is also a problem with Mac OS Ventura.

Hi,

This is not normal behavior or there would be many complaints. Something else is going on but I have no idea what. What 2017 Mac do you have? What build of 27 do you have installed? If you haven’t run the latest build of Monterey released yesterday yet, it’s a good idea to do that first.

Since this happened after your Monterey update, I recommend downloading 27 from your User Account and reinstalling — this will give you 27.3. Also run the latest Aria installer (both installers are included with the download).

Support normally recommends deleting Finale first if you are having problems and that’s not a bad idea.

I'll post this in both places. I haven't had this problem in years.

If I'm right, this is an oldie but goodie and may actually be an Apple issue—very easy to find out.

Go to System Preferences/Displays (System Settings/Displays in Ventura)

Uncheck the Default Color Profile. This should let you chose a new Profile from a dropdown list. I like Apple Cinema HD Display Calibrated

Close the System window. There is no need to reboot. You may have to quit and restart Finale, however.

If this fixes the problem—and you'll know immediately, the culprit is the default 10 bit Color engine. Changing it fixed certain slow downs in Finale and Digital Performer on my iMac Pro.

Many apps are affected by this and I don't know if Apple ever addressed this in Monterey or Ventura. As you can see, I still use an alternate Color Profile. I'll likely look at this again when I get my Studio later this year. Till then, if it ain't broke, I'm not fixing it.

I tried that, Mike, but with no success.

Hi, I just got a response from Finale.

It's a known Mac problem and the only solution at present is to adjust tuplets in scroll view (not page view). Although not ideal, I tried this out and it works on my setup.

Not sure if the Finale team is trying to fix the problem. We live in hope ...

I also got word from MakeMusic that they are "aware" of the problem. But, then, they have been aware of the problem for quite a while now according to previous reports.
