On occasion it would be very helpful to highlight lyrics or information for instrumentalists within the score in order for all to see the same thing without having to do it by hand. I have been told that this is not currently possible. I am submitting this as a request for the developers to consider this functionality in future updates. Thank you.

Currently I'm using Finale 27 and Windows 10

I am a very novice user and not familiar with the Cue Notes plug-in you've mentioned.  I was told that what I've asked about is not currently available in Finale; however, I will look into what you have provided.  Thank you.

Sherry Forester,

Since you are talking about the score (not the parts), I suppose that “for all to see” means “for everyone involved in the engraving (engraver, editor, publisher) to see”.

A such highlighter function has been requested for years.

Mr. Thomsen,

What I have in mind is when an arrangement is exported to pdf that certain portions of the music whether for a singer(s) or instrumentalist(s) that certain directions be visible in something other than black print.  Or that the box containing instructions/directions to be followed be highlighted say in yellow with the wording in black.  Also, in order to assist a singer, having the option to be able to print the lyrics in a different color or better yet to be able to highlight the lyrics - ideally with the flexibility to highlight different verses with different colors would be very helpful.

I apologize for my lack of use of the appropriate terminology, but I do so appreciate the interest and feedback I'm receiving regarding my post.

Thank you.

You can add annotations, etc. in a different color on the PDF.

Thank you for clarifying. Variations on this theme have been long requested but what you really want is not available in any notation app from anyone. None have Text elements (including Lyrics, Expressions etc.) that behave like a Word Processor. Not one.

All is easy to do in page layout and pdf editors, of course, and you don't need Acrobat, PageMaker, Quark or any of the high-priced apps for this. Even the cheapware and freeware is up to what you want to do—and there's a ton of that out there.

Since requests like this have been around 30 years or more, I'm guessing that it's not easy to implement. As much as we all would like to see it, none of us are holding our breaths. It would be nice, though, especially in the EDU market.

If I saw this in a player's part in a pit orchestra, I would be unhappy as the distraction would get in the way of sight reading. The Cue Notes plug-in handles those needs pretty well.
