Hello,
I have recently lost several sizeable arrangements for my chamber orchestra due to the titular issue.
At certain point during work, for an unknown reason, Finale fails to continue to recognize the backup folders it earlier created itself (even thought their location or names didn't change). That prevents saving any work henceforth.
Closing the program effectively eradicates *each and every* copy of the work from hard disk (I tried finding these copies with several data restoration applications - to no avail) - including copies saved before the issue appeared.                                                                                  So far, no effective way of dealing with this issue has been posted on Finale forum. Where does that leave us?

Windows Finale v27.2.0.144
I have the "Make Backups when saving files" option off.
My file-saving preferences point to existing folders that are not "read only".
Using File -> Save As and replace doesn't work, either, for the same titular reason.

I will offer a guess. If Windows deletes files or a file from the Finale temp folder it will cause this. I will suggest you set up a temp folder in some place where Windows can't get to it. For me I have my Finale temp folder on my third HD which is called my Z drive. Z:\Finale temp, now you must tell Finale in the Edit>Preference>Folders exactly where this folder is to work properly. If you have only one drive in your system create the folder off the root like C:\Finale Temp and make sure you point Finale to it. I am leaning to this being a Windows issue. You could have a security setting or account authorization setting messed up.

I have the "Make Backups when saving files" option off.

Why in the world would you do that? Set the Finale Backup folder in the same way as the temp folder. You need to do the same for the Finale Autosave folder.

Thank you for this advice, Ernest, will try.

I disabled "Make backups..." option since it was suggested earlier in the thread.
