Finale 27 Windows

When you are working with finale many hours a day, there are certain features that become more important.

1) Nudging in general: it would be an improvement if the action of moving things 1px with your mouse could be available with some help of arrow keys;

2) The shape expression designer is still quite basic. A rotation feature would be very welcome.

3) Also for the shape expression designer: Inkscape has this possibility to import a scan, and convert the symbols on that scan to vector images, which is very helpful. In the baroque era for instance there were so much symbols, that it is almost impossible to make a library with modern fonts for it. A vector based conversion of a scanned ornament or symbol etc. might be a very good alterative.

Interesting requests. I don't work for MM but have been using Finale since 1989 as well as pen & ink for the 20 years prior. My thoughts:

Although the ability to Nudge would be useful and faster, (1) is available other ways by specifying distance. Since adding Nudge would involve re-thinking and possibly rewriting how Finale handles everything, I don't see that happening in my lifetime. Remember that everything about notation involves graphics except for text and lyrics as Deems Taylor pointed out in the 1930s.

It never occurred to me that Finale has no graphics rotation feature (2). I think that, since scaling already exists, rotation shouldn't be too hard to include and agree it could be quite useful.

Since Finale supports SVG and PDF import, (3) might never happen as it could involve integrating a new graphics import tool for that use. Perhaps a plug-in or add-on for those want it. Till then, one has to create the scalable vector images separately with one of the many 3rd party tools as is the case now.
