I am still running Finale 2012, because it works on *most* of my computers.  On a friend's Windows 10 laptop (borrowed 2 years ago), I found the program unusable because everything was too small to see.  It'll be 2021 in one week, and my own Windows 7 laptop is finally failing, so I have to upgrade ... but I'm worried, because my last experience with Finale on a high-resolution laptop was a disaster.  I'd sort of assumed that all I'd need to do is upgrade to the current version of Finale ... but in this forum, I see people have continued to have problems/complain about poor Finale display/usability on high-resolution screens for 4 years (the most recent complaint I'm come across so far was from 7 months ago).

Can anyone give me a realistic picture of the current situation?  If I buy a 4K-resolution laptop, am I not going to be able to use Finale anymore?  Thanks in advance for your time and insight ...

I have no problems running Finale on my 4K monitor, and I think I first started using the 4K monitor with Finale 2014 or so. I do not use Finale much on my MacBook Pro Laptop (c. 2013), but I recall no problems with its Retina display.

J ADRIAN VERKOUTEREN: Thanks for your reply... it sounds as if you had no problems displaying finale on a 4K desktop computer monitor (i.e., with the work screens, windows, etc. being very small) and didn't have to adjust resolution for your entire computer in order to work in Finale.  That's great news!  Thank you.  If anyone else has had a different experience or problems with a 4K display, please chime in ... otherwise, it sounds as if I'm good to go.  :-)

Hmmm.  Just upgraded to the latest version of Finale (26) on my desktop PC, installed, and am reading instructions.  Under "System Requirements," the Finale Read Me file says:

(high resolution displays not currently supported)

I'm not sure exactly what "high resolution" means in this context, or what the effect is of trying to run Finale on a "high resolution display that isn't "currently supported," but gotta say, this is not a comforting beginning to my experience with the latest Finale.   Am glad I kept 2012 installed on my system.  Will update with my own experience when I acquire my new 4K laptop.

The Mac version of this problem was solved with 26.

Lots and lots of Windows apps have similar issues. There are many workarounds, too. I'd start here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3025083/windows-scaling-issues-for-high-dpi-devices

then here

https://www.ghacks.net/2020/01/02/the-perils-of-running-windows-10-on-a-4k-monitor/

and here

https://www.itwriting.com/blog/11737-using-windows-10-on-a-4k-display-issues-in-multi-monitor-setups.html

A simple Google search will reveal that this is a common issue. Not one of the first hundred sites I glimpsed at mention Finale.
