The title says it all. Continued dotting and ties are not necessary 95%of the time.

You need to be more specific. Does this problem occur when you're using Hyperscribe, or importing a midi file or something else? I use Speedy entry and never have the problem you describe.

It sounds like you are selecting the dot and the tie on the Simple Entry palette, before entering the note. Rather than that, enter just the note of the correct duration. Then, apply the dot with the . (period) key, and if you need to start a tie, tap the T.

Also, for the tie you can first enter the two notes, then from the second note end a tie via Shift-T.
