There are cross-hairs (like a gunsight) on the Note Position Tool when it is moved with the mouse, but it would be great if they could also appear when we nudge it with the L/R Arrow buttons, for the arrow keys are a lot more accurate, and make it a lot easier to align the notes with those on a different staff.

Thanks,

Jon

… a lot more accurate …

From your description it sounds like you are not using the Message Bar - right?

You can see the precise positioning in the Message Bar.

Just make sure that the Message Bar shows the same positioning number in both staves, and you can be sure the notes are aligned precisely - much more accurately than your eyes can “eyeball”.

Using the Message Bar works with both the mouse and the arrow keys.

However I would not mind having the crosshair, also when nudging with the arrow keys.

Hi Peter,

Having just read your reply... what and where is the "Message Bar?"
I look in the User's Manual and could not find anything about it.

Looks like a useful tool.

Thank you,
:-)

In a document window there is a Message Bar (Mac Finale displays it at the bottom of the window).

It gives info relevant for the selected Finale tool.

In the attached screen shot the Message Bar says

“SELECTION TOOL: Click an object to select it; Drag an object to move it; Double-click an object to go to its associated editing tool.”

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that you in Windows Finale do not have the option to hide the Message Bar.

1) It is possible to hide the Message Bar i Mac Finale:

Look in Preferences - New

The option to show the Message Bar is at the bottom:

2) If the option to show the Message Bar is selected, then the Message Bar should be shown (in the document window) when you open a new document window.

Thank you, Peter

Having seen your screenshot, I now remember the Message Bar before I switched from Macintosh to Windows.

Here's the windows version, with "Measure Number Bar," but not the "Message Bar" options.
